It wouldn't accommodate anything much larger than those--but would be great for showcasing a collection of tiny things

covered in scuffs and scrapes

Though without its slide top lid, I think the box is original to them, and think they likely date to the first quarter of the 20th century, though could be even a bit older than that. There are probably a handful of them missing, but almost a full box still, and I must say that in laying them out to photograph them, I was really tempted to spend a few hours playing.
